Where Engineering Meets the Art of the Headshave

Hoff & Stein began not in a boardroom, but in a modest workshop tucked behind an old barber atelier in southern Germany — a place where brass razors, leather strops, and scent of sandalwood lingered in the air.

Two lifelong friends, Erich Hoffmann and Matthias Stein, came from very different worlds.
Hoffmann was a precision engineer who had spent years designing surgical-grade instruments. Stein was a third-generation barber — raised between straight razors, warm lather, and the quiet conversations of men seeking a clean start.

For decades, the two debated the same question:

“Why has no one engineered a razor specifically for men who shave their heads?”

Head-shavers had always been forced to adapt tools designed for faces — razors too flat, too slow, too easy to cut with, and never shaped for natural circular motions over the scalp. Hoffmann saw an engineering challenge. Stein saw a grooming injustice. Together, they set out to rebuild the headshave from the ground up.

The Birth of Kopf Razors

In 2019, after hundreds of prototypes, tests in barbershops, late-night refinements, and countless failed attempts, Hoff & Stein unveiled their first masterpiece:

The Kopf Razor

A dual-ended, precision-balanced shaving instrument engineered for effortless circular head-shaving.

Its now-signature H-frame architecture was inspired by old drafting tools, while the dual-sided Wilkinson-compatible blade system came from Hoffmann’s obsession with efficiency. Each end was angled independently for closeness, while the central bridge provided optimal weight distribution and the unmistakable Hoff & Stein silhouette.

The razor wasn’t just functional — it felt like a tool built to be passed down. Solid. Balanced. Permanent.

When early testers tried it, something became clear:

Men weren’t just shaving faster — they were enjoying the ritual again.

A Philosophy Forged in Metal

Today, Hoff & Stein remains guided by the principles that built the first Kopf prototype:

European Craftsmanship — engineered and tested with the same precision as medical instruments.

Timeless Design — products that feel heirloom-worthy from the moment they’re held.

Uncompromising Performance — tools that elevate the daily ritual and protect the skin.

The Kopf Razor is not merely our first product.
It’s a declaration of who we are.

At Hoff & Stein, we don’t build grooming tools.
We build instruments.

And this is only the beginning.
